    Support For Your Committee - Green/Course Convenor

    A one day workshop, delivered by BIGGA experts & the Scottish Golf Club Development Team, to support the Green/Course Convenor to employ best practice in managing the clubs most talked about asset, the golf course. 


    There is no doubt that the golf course is the main asset of any golf club. The role of Green/Course Convenor is therefore one of high importance on the committee and is likely to be the area that much of your member and visitor feedback is directed.  The different challenges that face the Green Convenor are all too apparent with members discussing the speed of greens, height of rough and lending their ‘expert’ eye in the placement of bunkers.  Their input, no matter how well-intentioned can have serious implications for the smooth operation of the course.  A convenor must not only manage customer expectations within an approved budget, but also work with the Course Manager to ensure that regular updates on course maintenance & improvements are provided.  This seminar will assist Green Convenors and Course Managers to prepare for handling these common issues and to provide guidance on how to create an appropriate strategy for the golf course.


     Aims of this professional development workshop

    •  Create a strong working partnership for the Green Convenor & Course Manager/HGK
    • Clearly establish the roles and responsibilities of volunteers when it comes to the management & maintenance of the golf course including the creation of a role descriptor for the Greens Convenor
    • Discuss the requirement for a Course Maintenance Policy and its importance for establishing realistic measurable standards for your golf course
    • Establish a policy for the design & set-up of your course including long-term development
    • Provide guidance on the sources of education, advice & best practise for your golf course
    • Understand how your golf course fits into your wider club governance and business plan, and how to seek constructive member and visitor feedback


    Presenter and Materials –

    The seminar will be delivered by expert speakers from the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) & the Scottish Golf Development Team, with additional material provided by the R&A and the Scottish Golf Environment Group.(SGEG)


    Target audience for this workshop -

     This seminar is for your Greens Convenor and Course Manager to attend together and is suitable for either newcomers or long-standing convenors & managers.


     How do I book a place on this workshop ?

    This workshop is open to all clubs affiliated to the Scottish Golf at £ 99 for two delegates per club. You may register your interest in attending this seminar by clicking in the box near our "Scottish Golf" logo on this website, and following the instructions on the top left of this screen. You will receive an email acknowledging your interest, and when sufficient demand has been reached to deliver this seminar, Scottish Golf will contact you and provide at least four weeks’ notice of the date and venue of the workshop.
